With fall right around the corner, chances are you're starting to think about the tools and equipment you'll need for things like raking leaves, pruning shrubs, trimming trees, and preparing your home for winter. Furthermore, with fun holidays like Halloween and Thanksgiving rapidly approaching, it's also time to make sure your decorations are neatly organized and easily accessible. With these three tips, you can organize your garage or storage shed in a manner that makes transitioning from summer to fall as neat and as simple as possible.

Tip 1: Clean Your Yard & Garage

Before fall is fully upon us, it's important to do a final yard clean up by picking up already fallen leaves, mowing the yard a final time, trimming shrubs and branches, and any other tasks that you find necessary before colder weather moves in. This is also a good time to give your garage a good clean-out. After taking all of your equipment and belongings out, make three piles: keep, give away, and throw away. Wipe down the walls, power wash the floors, and clean all of the items you plan on returning to your garage or storage shed. Not only does this help you get a better idea of what types of tools and decorations you have, but it will also enable you to create a better organizational system.

Tip 2: Prepare Your Equipment for Fall and Winter

Now that you know what equipment you're putting back into your space, properly preparing your yard and gardening tools for the cooler months is imperative. Things to consider during this process include:

  • Winterize your lawn mower: Once you've completed the final mow of the summer season, it's important to winterize your lawn mower by changing the oil and either completely emptying your gas tank or adding fuel stabilizer to protect the tank from erosion over the winter.
  • Ensure your tools are in working condition: With leaf raking and snow shoveling likely in your future, be sure all of your rakes and shovels are in good condition. This means making sure handles are splinter-free, blades and prongs are secure, and rust isn't causing imminent problems.
  • Clean summer tools: Pruners, clippers, garden shovels, and other summer yard tools are at risk of becoming rusted or damaged over the winter if not cleaned and stored properly before winter. Before you put away your tools for the season, give them a wipe down with water and a bit of protective oil.

Tip 3: Install An Organization System

Lastly, one of the best ways you can achieve order in your space is by installing a high-quality garage organization system. With unique features like customizable design platforms, various amenities and sizing options, and useful accessories, a functional storage system makes it easy to safely and properly store your yard tools and seasonal decor. Some garage organization system features to look for include:

  • Hooks: From hose storage to shovel storage, adjustable hooks allow you to safely keep your equipment off of the ground and easily accessible when the time comes.
  • Cabinets: Whether you need tall cabinets to keep rakes, shovels, and other large equipment out of sight or smaller cabinets for storing things like tools, automotive fluid, and cleaning supplies, we have many cabinet sizes and colors to choose from that can meet all your storage wants and needs.
  • Shelves: By getting clutter like sporting equipment, outdoor gear, and holiday decorations off the ground and organized neatly on shelves, you can easily find what you're looking for without having to rummage through disorganized belongings.

Depending on your wants and needs, as well as the size of your garage or storage shed, there are a variety of storage options to fit your lifestyle. Whether you start with a storage system starter kit which allows you to slowly add on, or a jumbo kit that includes all of the unique design elements and features, the versatility of a panel storage system can fulfill your storage needs.
