FLOW WALL® Installation Instructions

Your FLOW WALL Arives

Your FLOW WALL Arrives

This is a truly exciting day, because this is that day that you will complete that home improvement and organization project you have been meaning to tackle. Check to make sure you have everything you ordered to install the optimal storage solution. Organization and preparation are key.

Tools Needed for FLOW WALL Assembly

Tools Needed for Assembly

For the proper installation of the FLOW WALL® Storage Solution, you need: a power drill with #2 Phillips bit, stud finder, tape measure, sharpie, caulking gun w/construction adhesive (such as LocTite® Foam Board), long t-rule, long level, and a piece of 1" x 2" x 4' scrap wood (to be used as installation guide). Oh, it would be nice to get a friend to help too...

Measure your wall space

Measure your Wall Space

Figure out where you want to install FLOW WALL®. We recommend centering the wall panel to minimize cutting. You should also center you panels over as many studs on each wall as possible.

Find your studs

Locate your Studs

Using a stud finder, locate all of the studs behind your drywall. For best results, mark both the inside and outside edges of the studs

Map your wall

Map your Wall

Put your level against the t-rule and use a sharpie to accurately mark the position of the studs on your wall. Draw long vertical lines that depict the position of each stud. Once you map all of your studs, the rest is easy.

Install a starting guide

Install a Starting Guide

Using a scrap 1" x 2" x 4' long piece of wood, find the horizontal position below your first wall panel. You can secure this starting panel into the wall using drywall screws. Remember, panels are 12" tall. (So, if your FLOW WALL® will be 7' high, put your installation guide at the 6' mark). This is a temporary guide and will be removed after your first wall panel is installed.

Apply construction adhesive

Apply a Construction Adhesive

This is optional but yields the BEST installation results. Simply run thin strips of construction adhesive along the back of each wall panel. There is a recess that depicts the top slat position. This will make installation easier, you can use fewer screws, and there will be decreased wall panel deflection. Plan to use about 1 tube of Construction Adhesive for every 48 sq/ft. of FLOW WALL®. We recommend a Loc Tite® General or Foam Board Adhesive readily available at your local hardware store.

Install your first Wall Panel

Install First Wall Panel

Rest your first wall panel on the installation guide making sure it is level. Move it into the desired position on the wall. Make sure that you put it right side up; you might want to install a hook to double check (You don't want to install an entire wall and realize that you have it upside down). Align your first installation screw and drive it all the way through your board into the stud behind.

Screw Flow Wall into your wall

Screw into your Wall

Using FLOW WALL® color matched installation screws. Note the screw guide in the center of each slat. Use one screw in each slat on the outsides of the panel, then you can alternate every other slat. As a rule, the more weight you need to store, use more screws, for storing lighter items, use fewer. Screw in until the screw head is flush with the slat, but not too tight. Remove the starting guide. Align the next wall panel below your starting panel. Make sure to press them into place so that the two new panels make a seamless connection.

Line up your edges

Line up your Edges

Use the straight edge of the starting guide or long t-rule to make sure your wall panels are cascading properly. Note that there might be a 1/8" variable by panel. This will be covered by your finish strip.

Install the rest of your panels

Work Down

Keep installing panels as outlined until you are finished. Make sure to press it into place so that the panels make a seamless connection. Remember, the bottom slats are very useful in support rolls for heavier items. Work your way down, then out.

Grow your wall horizontally

Grow Wall Horizontally

Insert the nylon dowel connectors into the extruded dowel slots in the back. Gently force the panels together making sure that the dowel connectors slide into slots on both panels.

Clean your wall panels

Clean your Wall Panel

Use a household cleaner and paper towel to wipe any dirt off of wall panel. Clorox® clean-up works best for white panels, use Simple Green® or gentle cleanser for other colors. FLOW WALL® panels are easy to clean, water proof, and antimicrobial.

Add finish strips

Add Finish Strips

Finish strips give the wall panel installation a clean and complete feel. Since the strips are universal, starting from the right install from top to bottom, and from the left install from bottom to top.
