Many garages encounter problems with shoes and boots when the weather turns cold. Snow boots, rain boots, and ski boots pile up in the garage by the door to your house, making a pile of shoes that threatens your garage organization. Get on top of this problem before it arises this season by adding a boot dock to your wall storage or garage organization.
Most storage shelves can serve as a landing pad for your family’s shoes. Select a low-to-the-ground shelf or storage unit that will fit all the boots you’ll be expecting this year. Because it’s natural to take shoes off before entering the house, consider placing this storage unit near the entrance of the door. It may require some rearranging of the wall storage or garage organization already in place, but that’s what good garage organization is all about: adaptation.
Once your shelving is established and in place among your other garage organization, don’t forget to use it, and remind others to use it. Once it’s a habit, your entryway will stay safe and clear.

For many garages, sleds in the wintertime can wreak havoc on garage organization. They are large, bulky, and pile up after only an afternoon of use. Be on guard this winter and stop this problem before it even occurs. There are two recommended ways to store sleds among your garage storage—hooks and shelves—both of which include wall storage of some kind.
Hooks. Since most sleds have either a rope, handle, or rail on them, hooks are probably the best alternative to hanging your sleds. Line an empty space on your wall with hooks, and keep your sleds there. If you have more sleds than people in your family, consider minimizing your sled inventory. Since your sleds are already hanging on wall storage hooks, this can make a perfect place to also hang things like snow pants, coats, and scarves for your next outing.
Shelving. This one is a littler trickier, but with the right shelves, this can also be a productive installment to your garage organization and wall storage. Make sure that if you install shelves for larger items like sleds, that your shelves are very deep and will not lead to a wall storage landslide. Stack or pile your sleds on one of these shelves, keeping them off the floor, and up your wall storage. It’s like they’re not even there.
Whatever your problem area is this winter, consider wall storage solutions for those things that seem to always find a home on the floor or in a corner.

If you have trouble parking your car in your garage, you’re not alone. Often times, the garage is a place of war between the car and the garage storage under its roof. To help solve this dilemma, start with one wall at a time. Wall storage is your best friend for garage organization, and it will usually make your garage more visually appealing. Try to hang your garage storage on it as if you are decorating a wall in your home.
Begin by hanging the ladder. It’s usually best to keep it low to the ground if you use it often enough. This is your wall storage base. Next, hang a line of storage bins right above the ladder. This can be your second layer. In the bins, you can toss things like balls, buckets, or tools. Whatever needs to be more accessible. Along the top, hang long yard tools. This way, the head is up, out of harm’s way, and the bottom handle is where you can easily grab it for when you need it. Then, fill in the holes. Where there is a space on the wall, hang hooks or nails and place the garden hose, smaller tools, or cords wherever they fit best.
Stand back, and you’ll see you have a lovely, organized wall.

When tackling an unorganized garage, it usually helps to break your task down into groups, and focus on one section at a time. Pick one corner, workspace, or wall of your garage that needs help, and completely clear it out. Once you have done this, pick some specific storage in your garage that constantly gives you trouble. For many people, yard tools can clutter up garage organization, so this would be a great place to start. But whatever your source of trouble may be, focus on that, using the same principles.
Once your space is clear, collect all the yard tools in your garage storage, and begin devising a plan. The best way to store things like rakes, hoes, shovels, etc., is through wall storage. This might require a bit of hardware, but nothing beyond the tools probably found in your garage. Hang nails, hooks, or shelves, and arrange your yard tools on your wall storage as seems appropriate.
Now you have at least one section of your garage storage organized. This one space will likely inspire further garage organization. As you move through your garage, make sure to utilize wall storage as much as possible. It’s the most efficient use of space in your garage. As you begin to take garage storage off the floor and up the wall, you will watch your garage organization transform. And it can be as simple as starting in the corner.

For garage storage with lots of little pieces like sports balls, hardware, and children’s toys, the best way to get organized fast is the simple addition of garage storage bins.
If your wall storage has paneling, the installation of these storage bins is a snap, and looks clean and organized. There are three different sizes of garage storage bins that are the most popular. Whatever your garage organization needs are, one of these three bins should be able to accommodate your garage storage.
Hard Bin (Small). The small bins are ideal for lining above your garage worktable for small things like tools, spare nails, and hardware. Drawers can become messy and tabletops should be used for your work, having an accessible bin right on your wall storage will really come in handy during any project.

Plastic Laundry Bin. These plastic bins are really ideal for any wall storage near your washing machine. The plastic is easy to clean, and your detergents are grouped together, right at your fingertips, making the laundry room look as clean as laundry coming out.

Soft Storage Bin. Any garage storage that includes loose sports balls or toys should have a soft storage bin adhered to its wall storage. Simply toss those loose items into the bin and walk away. It’s the simplest, and also cleanest, way to organize your wall storage without completely altering your garage.

If you’ve realized that furniture is one of the largest contributors to garage disorganization, you probably already know that tables are a top-contributor of furniture pileups. If tables are a part of your garage storage, my guess is they are set up in a corner and have piles of other garage storage on top. Follow these steps to weed out some of those unnecessary bulky items, like tables, from your garage storage, so your garage can become the tidy place you know it can be.
- Sell it. Again, this one will keep coming up in any steps to garage organization, but weeding out the unnecessary and selling it for cash could really make all the difference in your garage organization.
- Collapse it. Try taking the table apart if possible. Unscrew the legs, and hang the tabletop up with your wall storage if at all possible. If not, leaning it against a wall is also a better alternative and should save you some space.
- If your table does not collapse, try turning it into a positive contributor to your garage organization. Clear it off of all clutter on top, and stack only garage storage solution items like shelves, drawers, and bins on top. This way, you will approach what goes on top of the table with more care, and your things will stay better organized.
Tackling the furniture in your garage can be daunting, but it is possible to achieve better garage organization once you do it.

Hooks are a wonderful way to get clutter off your floor and up your wall storage. Hooks are best used as an accessory, augmenting your existing garage storage solutions, but if you just need a quick spruce up, you can still benefit your garage organization with just a few hooks.
Begin by lining the desired wall (or all walls for optimal garage organization) with paneling. This will allow hooks to easily be placed (rather than installed) on your wall storage and moved whenever you’d like or need in the future. Get as many hooks as your garage storage will require. Pay attention to the size, length, and durability of the hook depending on the specific garage storage you will be hanging.
If you’re unsure if your garage storage will benefit from hooks, look again. Ropes, garden hoses, rakes, bikes, shovels, large tools, leaf blowers, chainsaws, buckets, and some bins can all be hung on hooks. And that is just the beginning. Some hook can be bought with longer arms, facilitating more than just your typical garden hose. The possibilities are endless, and hooks are an affordable way to clear our your space, and hang up your wall storage.
